PANDA Series - Cold Chain Transport Monitoring

Industry Trends & Safety Monitoring Demands

With the continued growth of cross-border trade and the transportation of pharmaceuticals and perishable goods, cold chain logistics is facing increasingly stringent requirements for temperature control, vehicle status, cargo security, and data traceability.

In Europe, regulations such as the EU Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines are driving higher standards for the transport and temperature control of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. In long-haul markets such as Latin America, complex operating environments and cargo security risks are increasing the demand for fleet monitoring, cargo protection, and transport visibility.

Therefore, modern cold chain transportation needs to focus on three key dimensions—cargo quality and temperature monitoring, cargo and asset security, and vehicle and driving safety—to enable continuous monitoring and data collection throughout the transportation process.

Cold chain transport management is also gradually evolving from traditional location tracking toward a multidimensional, real-time, and data-driven monitoring model covering cargo temperature, vehicle status, driving safety, and cargo security.

The PANDA Series – Cold Chain Transport Monitoring Solution is designed to address these requirements through integrated monitoring and data collection across multiple aspects of the cold chain transportation process.

Topology

1. Cargo Quality & Temperature Monitoring

Cold chain cargo is highly sensitive to transportation temperatures, and temperature deviations may affect product quality and transportation compliance.

High-precision Bluetooth temperature and humidity sensors can collect temperature and humidity data from the cargo compartment or transportation environment. Combined with CAN data collection from refrigeration units, the system can capture refrigeration equipment operating status, temperature, alarm information, and other available parameters, further enhancing temperature visibility and refrigeration equipment status monitoring throughout the cold chain transportation process.

For small-batch cold chain deliveries, the TL904M Cold Chain Delivery Tracker features a built-in temperature and humidity sensor for simultaneous collection of location and transportation environment data. The collected data can be transmitted over cellular networks to a third-party or customer-owned platform, supporting transportation monitoring and data traceability.

2. Cargo Security & Asset Protection

In cold chain transportation, cargo and vehicle security is equally important alongside temperature management.

A cargo compartment monitoring camera can be installed inside the cargo compartment and triggered by a photo command when required. It captures images of the cargo compartment and goods for cargo status verification, abnormal situation investigation, and transportation record keeping.

Combined with a smart electronic lock, the solution supports unlocking through a Bluetooth APP or authorized commands, as well as vibration, cutting, and high-decibel audible alarms. This provides additional access control and anti-theft protection for vehicles, cargo compartments, and transported goods.

3. Fleet Safety & Vehicle Status Monitoring

Long-haul cold chain transportation places higher demands on vehicle operating status and driving safety.

The TE604E Vehicle CAN Bus GPS DTU supports GNSS positioning, CAN bus data collection, ACC detection, and driving behavior monitoring, as well as collision detection and geofencing applications. When used with a Vehicle CAN Bus Data Logger, it can further collect vehicle operating data such as mileage, fuel consumption, engine operating status, engine speed, and fault codes, providing data support for vehicle status management and maintenance. Ultrasonic fuel level sensors and tire pressure sensors can also be integrated to extend fuel level and tire status monitoring capabilities.

Meanwhile, a smart dash camera provides high-definition video recording and ADAS driving assistance functions. An optional DMS camera can further monitor driving behaviors and conditions such as fatigue, distraction, and mobile phone use, helping to enhance driving safety throughout the cold chain transportation process.

In summary, cold chain transportation needs to move beyond single-dimensional location tracking toward comprehensive monitoring of temperature conditions, refrigeration equipment, vehicle status, driving behavior, and cargo security.

The PANDA Solution combines GPS/GNSS, CAN data collection, temperature and humidity sensors, refrigeration unit data, photo-based cargo monitoring, smart electronic locks, and vehicle safety monitoring devices to provide more comprehensive data collection and safety monitoring capabilities for cold chain transportation.
